Forgiveness
Joyce Meyer puts it like this; “sometimes forgiveness means giving up what you think you deserve…an unpaid debt, a forgotten promise or even an apology.”
Even though we feel the loss, we are called to forgive, forgiveness is not easy, in fact at times its downright difficult and so we hang on to the hurt and nurse the wound. If we could just understand that as long as we are unforgiving and holding a grudge against someone we are hurting ourselves. Its a whole lot like drinking poison and waiting for the other person to die. Matthew 6:14 says “If you forgive those who sin against you, your heavenly Father will forgive you.” I don’t know about you, but I certainly want my heavenly Father’s forgiveness. When we ask God to forgive our sins against him, He never tells us no, He forgives and goes on. When we forgive others we need to let it go, whatever it is, and move on. One of the hardest things for me, is to pray for the person causing the hurt and unforgivness, but Romans12:14 says “Bless those who persecute you. Don’t curse them; pray that God will bless them.” Do you know how hard that is? However, as I start praying for them, I release them and the hurt, I ask God to bless them and pretty soon, after sometime, it gets easier to pray blessings over them and before I know it, the hardness of heart goes away and I’m not holding a grudge any longer. I challenge you to start forgiving, pray for those who you just can’t forgive, ask God for His help in finding forgiveness.
